Why should you create a Facebook “Page” as oppose to just having a Facebook “Profile” for my blog?
This is a question many bloggers find themselves asking too often. I did.
When I began blogging I used my FB (Facebook) Profile for my readers to use in order to communicate with me on Facebook. I soon realized it was not going to work for my situation. Why? I was getting complete strangers asking to “friend” me. I needed to keep my personal life separate from my business life. I needed to have a place for my readers to go and find out what was the latest news for Ramblings of a WAHM; not the latest news about my personal life. Not to mention, I wanted to keep my personal life, well, personal.
So I created a Facebook Page.
A Facebook Page:
- Allows people to “follow”, “like” or be a fan of your business or organization. (Profiles give you friends.)
- Is open to the public for everyone to see. (Profiles are private.)
- Allows unlimited followers. (Profiles are limited to 5000 friends.)
- Is viewed as more professional. (Profiles are not, they are for individuals.)
- Gives a direct line back to your business and/or blog. (Profiles are more direct to YOU.)
Wondering how to create a Facebook Page. It is very easy. Log into your profile and get started with the video below.
Facebook, along with Twitter, should be the foundations to your social networking. Over and over both have proven to be trusted sources of not only traffic but communication and camaraderie with fellow bloggers and readers.
What is your take?

Yes, I do. https://www.facebook.com/thesecretlifeofawarriorwoman
I’m really starting to use it to build my profile, interact with other pages where my market gather and I’m seeing results. I schedule time in the morning and evening to use FB as my page and comment on other people’s pages.

Alison,
I love to see everyone on FB! It is such an easy platform to communicate with, personally and for business. It does seem like you need to work at it a bit to get fans but once you have them, FB can actually be fun and informative for everyone.
I was late on the scene with FB but now that I am getting a few fans I too am seeing the positive results.
Thx for leaving your link, I was already a fan but I think my fans should check you out too!

I finally created my FB page to go along with my ranch, but I’m lacking one thing that I feel I need to get connected right away, and wonder if you could help me out. I want to hook up my blog, which is being fed into Networked Blogs, to the new ranch page, and seperate it from my personal page. Looking around, I could not remember how to do that, and I looked for a couple of hours. HELP! lol
You can check out the new FB page here

Michelle,
If I have it right. You want to have your blog posts to feed into your FB Page not your Profile, correct?
Go to the Networked Blogs FB: http://apps.facebook.com/blognetworks/ while you are logged into your FB account/profile or log in when you get there. Click “syndication”. Then “New Posts from:” and select your blog. Then “Add a FB Target” and you should see your page listed. Click it to have the posts feed into your Page.
At that same page, you can remove syndication to your Profile. Just “expand all” to see all your syndications. And then “remove”.
I hope that answered your question. I’m glad you posted it because I had to do the same, lol. So now my page too is getting fed my posts and not my profile.
LMK if that helped or I didn’t get it right.

Thanks so much! I somehow overlooked the “new Target” link.

Here’s my problem, and I haven’t found a person that knows of the solution…I’ve got my welcome page made and loaded…but when I go to edit my page, the option isn’t there (as it is on my other page) to change the landing page. So, I can’t change my landing page to “welcome.”
Suggestions? hints?
Krystyn,
I wish I could give you a solution but it almost seems like a FB, app or coding issue.
Is there anything different between the 2 pages, like you used different coding or application? Jill commented here with the same problem: http://www.ramblingsofawahm.com/facebook-landing-page/#comment-2086 and I am wondering if she solved it. Maybe I can get a hold of her and see.
I’ll send the issue out to the Twitter masses and see what response I get. I’ll get back to you.
~Allie
Thanks! I think it’s a FB thing. Because on the page I have the option, I don’t even have the app installed.
From what Jill wrote, she at least has the option to change the landing page. I don’t even have the drown down menu option for the landing page…that’s what’s really confusing.
Love to see if you find anything. I’ve been looking on FB and twitter, too.
I’ve also tried logging in and out, different computers, different admin accounts for it, etc.

Krystyn,
It seems to be FB. I hope that glitch works itself out. If I hear anything I will surely let you know.
Good luck.

I do have a Facebook page and I was surprised by how easy it was to create it! I thought I would have to jump through a lot of loops (ringed with fire maybe?) to get that; but it was easy!

Hi Allie. I have a facebook page which can be found here http://www.facebook.com/pages/Personal-Touch-Gifts-Ltd/504015776292600
I recently read another blog of yours titled ‘First steps to marketing online for mom business owners.’ In which you suggested advertising on Facebook (duly done and awaiting results!) You also suggested “…join groups, using your profile, on Facebook that help you find people to network with in your industry or even help you find more customers.”
This would be perfect for me as our website has various different categories which would nicely correspond with various Facebook groups. However I can’t seem to find the search button! Has Facebook recently changed or more likely am I being incredibly blind?

Michelle,
Thank you for reading my blog! I hope my tips coming in handy for you.
The FB search box is always at the top of Facebook. Simply type what you are looking for, scroll down a bit and click “see more results, it will give you the results, and now simply click “groups” on the left margin. Be sure to be using FB as your profile , not page.
