I have something for you to contemplate. I mean really think about it.
Well? What would you do without social media and SEO? Do you have a blog and and email list to call your own?
Here is Enstine’s comment.

I seriously need a hat. That would make my vids sooo much easier. I love just hearing from you. Who cares about the bells and whistles? I LOVED your crutches post. It’s sooooo true. I feel that most people use SEO and Social Media as an excuse to NOT contact important people and collab with them.

Renae,
I would really like to do bells and whistles but it simply is not on my radar just yet. So I’ll keep it low tech for now.
Thanks, that post was actually for me. I was getting pretty good at social media when I realized that my email list was not growing and I rarely sent newsletters, that’s bad. So I decided to change gears. I know a lot of people get caught up in SM, it is so easy and fun. But it should be limited.
Thanks always for coming by!!

Hey Allie,
It’s so true. It seems like so many people, articles and gurus say do the social media thing, do the seo thing. It got me to thinking about what would happen if google banned me or social media went away. I think the key is defenitely in the list. It allows you to keep in contact with your fans and readers. But still, what would i do if google suddenly devalued my site by some oversite (which i’ve heard happened). I don’t have the answer but it makes me worry a little.

Annie,
Right now I am #8 for a really great keyword. But my site is not shown in the search results anywhere. Not the first or second page. How? The very first site for that keyword is huge so Google shows subcategories for it in their search results thus eliminating the lower 3 results, RWAHM included. I worked hard to get to the first page and I am rewarded with no presence at all.
This got me thinking that I really need t stop relying on Google and social media and just get out there and get to know people and work on building my list, which I have complete control over.
OK, I’m off my soap box.

I started my blogs a couple of weeks ago. I make use the social media but I do not make my own email list or even SEO. I think they are very important and it will be very useful if I apply it in my blog. Thank you for sharing this great point.

Heru,
Go right now to MailChimp, it’s free for 5000 subscribers and start an email list. Get subscribers and start sending out a newsletter to them right away.
That list is you most loyal readers, treat them like gold. Don’t rely on SEO or social media as much as taking to your readers.
Good luck with your new blog.

thanks for your thoughts. There is no doubt social media fits some markets/audiences better than others. But it can be used for sharing/amplification for all I think.

I guess it’s safe to say don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Just make sure your following the guidelines of the social properties. They are probably here to stay for quite some time. I actually see them overtaking search engines as people check on their friends and stuff to find stuff online. Nothing is worse than getting banned from one of those sites and having to start all over. Actually, one SEO Google is leaning towards less SEO is actually more. This simply means just authority sites rather than tons of low value ones with a natural link profile will help you more in the longrun.

Garen,
I would never stop using social media, that is blogging suicide, lol. For me, I need to back off and really work on my email list and putting out great content on my blog. The more I am active on SM, the more I give them my time and, really, money for them. I want more followers and money for me.
You are so right, never all the eggs in one basket. I have heard of people following the guidelines and they get punished. Happens way more with SEO than SM but it can happen. Maybe in my older age I am getting cynical and don;t trust the big guys.
